Apprenticeship

As an Apprentice:

you work and get paid while you learn an industry skill. It’s a real job with real training, meaning you gain hands-on work experience as well as a formal qualification. As an apprentice you learn ‘on-the-job’, which may mean that you go to college on day release or undertake all of your training at work – it varies depending on your role and your employer.

As an apprentice you will:

  • work alongside experienced staff
  • gain job-specific skills
  • earn a wage and get holiday pay
  • study towards a related qualification

As an employer:

Who can Apply

You can apply for an apprenticeship while you’re still at school. To start one, you’ll need to be:

  • 16 or over
  • living in England
  • not in full-time education
  • You are working full-time but want to develop your skills and knowledge alongside your job.

Levels of Apprenticeship

There are three levels of Apprenticeship in total and the level of Apprenticeship you do will depend on previous qualifications and experience and the type of industry you will work in.

  • Level 2 – Intermediate Apprenticeship (equivalent to GCSEs)
  • Level 3 – Advanced Apprenticeship (equivalent to A-Levels)
  • Apprenticeships take 1 to 4 years to complete depending on their level.

The government is offering a Apprenticeship Grant of £1500 to small businesses to help pay for the cost of employing every apprentice aged 16-24 (subject to availability and eligibility)

How Does it Works ?

As an apprentice candidate:

If you have an employer then we can talk to both of you about moving onto an Apprenticeship, or We can talk to you about vacancies that are currently being advertised and help you to apply.

As an employer, we will:

  • Help you decide which Apprenticeship is right for you
  • Explain the way that Apprenticeships might work for you and if funding is available
  • Recruit an apprentice or support your existing staff into Apprenticeships
  • Agree a training plan with your apprentice
  • Manage the training and evaluation
  • Ensure that national quality standards are met and deliver integrated, coherent training.
